At SummerSlam, two of WWE’s biggest superstars, CM Punk and Rhea Ripley, made their respective in-ring returns. Yesterday, WWE released a vlog showcasing Punk’s weekend ahead of his first televised bout in a decade. As shown in one of the clips, The Second City Saint interacted with Ripley backstage. The Eradicator looked nervous, confirming so while talking with Punk behind-the-scenes.
In response, the former WWE Champion comforted her by saying that it would get better once she stood in front of the live audience. After almost four months, Ripley finally competed inside the squared circle. The Aussie Superstar squared off against longtime rival Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship. Although she ended up losing due to Dominik Mysterio‘s betrayal, Ripley looked at her best in the match.
Meanwhile, Punk got his hands on Drew McIntyre in a grudge bout. After a drama-filled battle, The Scottish Warrior defeated the Best in the World. For months, these two tortured and humiliated each other to the point that things got personal. McIntyre had snatched Punk’s bracelet, which has the latter’s wife and dog’s names embedded on it. As such, the bracelet somehow ended up being the deciding factor in the match.
Regardless of the results, both CM Punk and Rhea Ripley might’ve been thrilled with the way things turned out on the night. Having said that, fans expect the duo to engage in more in-ring encounters in the coming weeks on Monday Night Raw.
Drew McIntyre opens up about his real-life issues with CM Punk
When CM Punk returned to WWE last year, not many could’ve expected that his first rivalry would be against Drew McIntyre. Of course, this stemmed from McIntyre’s disappointment with Punk being welcomed back with open arms. However, his issues with the Voice of the Voiceless go way back longer than that.
While speaking on Notsam Wrestling, The Scottish Warrior revealed that his hatred for Punk started in his first run with the company. McIntyre accused Punk of stopping him from receiving bigger opportunities in WWE. Moreover, the Straight Edge Superstar saw him as a “threat” back then, which hampered his momentum.
There are opportunities that were prevented directly involving Punk, and I know he saw me as a threat when I was younger, he adversely affected my momentum.Drew McIntyre via Notsam Wrestling (H/T: WrestlingInc)
Although he didn’t detail the story behind it, McIntyre teased that it would come up sometime in the near future. Following the SummerSlam result, it goes without saying that the feud is far from over. As of writing, Punk and McIntyre are reportedly set for a Hell in a Cell bout at October’s Bad Blood PLE.
