Renowned analyst and 3-time Super Bowl champion, Shannon Sharpe, has bashed Mac Jones‘ statements where he defends himself for his ‘dirty’ on-field moves. Jones has been called out multiple times for his behavior on the field this season and the same thing happened last week in the Patriots vs Bengals game where Jones attempted an unnecessary tackle that looked pretty suspicious.
During the game, the Patriots had fumbled the ball and as Germaine Pratt was attempting to return it, Jones cheekily landed a low hit to Eli Apple‘s knees. Both men were at least five yards away from Pratt and the tackle was totally uncalled for. As a result of this, Jones was fined $11,139 this week by the NFL but wasn’t levied with a suspension, which many people wanted.
The fine was totally apt given the fact that the quarterbacks can’t always have a soft corner and they can’t keep getting away by possibly causing injuries to defensive players intentionally. After the game, Apple called Jones‘ move a ‘dirty play’ but Jones said that he didn’t intend to cause any injuries to anyone and that it was all a ‘part of the game’.
Shannon Sharpe slams Mac Jones for his on-field antics
Speaking on Undisputed with Skip Bayless, Sharpe expressed his frustration over Jones’ comments. Jones said he “Definitely no intention to hurt anybody” about his controversial block in the Bengals game. Sharpe lost his cool over this and yelled at Jones to stop lying and said that he won’t buy this lie for a dollar. He questioned Jones’ intention to block someone and indirectly said that his only intention was to cause unnecessary injuries.
“I’m not buying that 3 for a dollar. Stop lying! Just say you were wrong because this was a cheap shot. That was a cheap move, Skip. What are you blocking for? Why are you trying to block the guy who is trying to block somebody?” Sharpe said.
As of now, Jones has been fined $11000 and will start quarterback for the Patriots once again this week. The Patriots are 7-8 for the season and have a slim chance of qualifying for the playoffs. They will have to win their remaining two games and will look to pip Miami Dolphins in the AFC East division. They will take on the Dolphins and the Bills in their next two games.
