Miner dies in accident at Galena Complex in Silverton

UPDATE: KXLY is reporting a miner died in an accident at the Galena Complex on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Silver Corporation. The miner was struck by falling ground.

Operations have been suspended and U.S. Silver is working with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. The mine will be closed for a few days.

"We are shocked and saddened by this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and coworkers of our employee," said Americas Gold and Silver President and CEO Darren Blasutti. "Our primary focus is supporting those involved and working to fully understand the circumstances that led to this event and to prevent it from happening again in the future."

The name of the miner has not been released.

KXLY reported that the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office was at Galena Mine on reports of an accident.

Their report continued to state that according to the Sheriff's Office, they were on the scene at the mine near Wallace.

The mine's parent company will send out a release at a later time.
