Leslie Jordan Talks About First Time Meeting Dolly Parton, New Album & More Celeb Secrets

August 2024 · 3 minute read

Leslie Jordan was speechless the first time he met Dolly Parton. Plus, he reveals his claim to fame has changed his life for the better while opening up about an upcoming album.

The Call Me Kat actor shares his transition to music and authorship in his guest feature for talkshoplive on Tuesday night (May 11). While promoting his latest book How Y’all Doing? Jordan hands out exclusive products like gold vinyl albums, CDs, bandanas and autographed copies of his book. Most excitingly of all, he even goes on to showcase his blue satin jackets.

Leading up to the big event, Jordan says his life has been a whirlwind of crazy moments. There are several interesting hazards that come along with an “Instagram level of fame” according to Jordan. “I feel like Lady Gaga! I can’t get down the street, and it startles me.”

Jordan is shocked as he reminisces all the moments where he is simply going about his day until the fans intrude. “You know, I’m no young chicken, I’m 66 years old. I’m walking down the street and somebody hollers my name and I’m like ‘what did I do, did I do anything wrong?!’,” he says. “Or I’m driving my car, I have a cute little convertible, I saved all of my money and bought a BMW convertible. I can’t put the top down because people will see me and yell and everything so that’s changed.”

More than anything else, Jordan has really noticed that strangers tend to call him out for the various acting roles he’s taken on over the years–and we’re not surprised! Some of his latest gigs include prominent spots in Will & Grace, The Cool Kids and even American Horror Story to name a few.

On top of the book launch, Jordan has been keeping busy working with Parton on an upcoming studio album and he’s preparing for a big debut at the Grand Ole Opry.

He knew the collab would be a dream fit as soon as he saw Parton’s energy first-hand. “When I met Dolly, I’m rarely at a loss for words. I couldn’t speak,” he says while reminiscing the moment they ran into each other at a Nashville-based studio. According to Jordan, she looked “just like a Christmas ornament” with all her dazzling and glitzy outfit that day.

However, Jordan admits not everyone is as excited about him as 75-year-old Parton. In fact, he hilariously dished that former One Direction band member Harry Styles still hasn’t replied to his DM. “Such a cutie. I wanted to offer him. . .he’s going to play a gay character in a movie called The Policeman and I just wanted to offer him some tips,” Jordan says.

Going forward, fans can expect to catch a performance from Jordan at the Grand Ole Opry on May 22. In addition, Jordan has expressed interest in working with Kacey Musgraves on a second album, so stay tuned!
