It won’t be a reach to call Katlyn Chookagian a veteran in the UFC given she has fought inside the UFC octagon for over five years now. The former flyweight title contender is very realistic about her chances to get her shot again in the future. Nevertheless, Katlyn Chookagian has got that “try until you succeed” attitude which is why she is one of the most active fighters on the roster.
The “Blonde Fighter” got her title shot against current flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko but fell short to strip the belt of ‘The Bullet’ at UFC 247’s co-main event in February of 2020. Katlyn Chookagian is scheduled to fight Viviane Araujo at UFC 262 this weekend which is held at the Toyota Center.
Katlyn made an appearance before the media ahead of the big fight this weekend. Chookagian was rational about her title shot chances and spoke to the reporters about it including MMA Junkie. “I enjoy a payday, as well. So yeah, anyone coming up – I’ll take a fight with anyone. Everyone knows that. I’m just trying to stay active, and any time there’s an opportunity, I’ll take it. I even told the matchmakers – I’m like, ‘If you need a replacement at 135, I’ll do that.’ Obviously, flyweight is my main thing, but just so I can stay active,” she told earlier today to the media.
Katlyn Chookagian has high praise for Viviane Araujo
Though Araujo has merely half the experience of Katlyn in the UFC, the Brazilian has gone through big names in her time inside the UFC octagon. Viviane Araujo last bout was against Roxanne Modafferi who she won via decision in January. “She’s definitely very good,” Chookagian said of her opponent.
“She’s only been in the UFC for a shorter amount of time, but all of her opponents were definitely really, really good and high-level opponents. I think that’s what kind of really sets her apart. She didn’t really go from the bottom of the division. She kind of came in and always had really good opponents, so getting wins over those are definitely very strong,” said Katlyn on Araujo.
“I think I’m kind of almost like, ‘If you beat Katlyn, then you can get a title shot’ type of thing. But I don’t care. If I keep winning, then I’ll get the title shot, which is obviously always the goal. But in the meantime, I understand my position, and I’ve got to just rack up a couple of wins. I’m ready for that. I just want to stay active. That’s the only way you get better and the way you can earn your next shot,” ended Katlyn Chookagian.
