OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Police have released body camera footage of an encounter with a now former Oklahoma school employee who was accused of being drunk on the job.
"You're under arrest, there's no getting out of it," the officer says in the footage.
"No, let me call, you said I could call somebody, I'll call somebody to come get me," Kimberly Coates says back.
According to the Perkins Police Department, the incident happened on Thursday, Aug. 17. School officials contacted police after they were concerned a teacher was possibly intoxicated.
As seen in the body camera video, school officials expressed concern over Coates' behavior right before she took a breathalyzer test.
Well, I'm just going to be honest Kimberly, I'm concerned about you, I have a responsibility to take care of the kids. And it's not going to be my decision," a school administrator says."It's my decision, so let's see what happens," says Perkins-Tryon school district Superintendent Doug Ogle.
Moments later, the results of the test were revealed.
"You gonna tell me the truth? How much did you have to drink?" says the officer.
"I drank last night," says Coates.
"There's no way you drank last night," the officer replies.
"Well, I did drink last night," says Coates.
Ogle then chimes in with, "Did you drink at school is what he's asking, tell us the truth."
"I didn't drink at school," Coates says.
"You blew two times the legal limit," says the officer.
"I did?" asks Coates.
Ogle put out a statement regarding the incident:
"Last Thursday, I was made aware of a possible situation involving a staff member. I immediately contacted the Perkins Police Department, whose officers oversaw the investigation. The school district conducted an internal investigation and cooperated with law enforcement. The teacher involved has since resigned. The district’s number one priority is to provide a safe learning environment for students. Because this is a personnel issue, I am unable to share additional information and must refer further questions to the Perkins Police Department."
Coates was taken to the Payne County Jail but has since been released. KOKH reached out to the Perkins Police Department about the incident, but they said they will not be making any further comments at this time.
