The Kansas City Chiefs and their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes have arrived in Las Vegas to start training for their Super Bowl game against the San Francisco 49ers, which is scheduled to take place this Sunday. While he is fully focused on the big game, his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr. is currently having legal issues after getting arrested for drunk driving.
According to multiple reports, Mahomes Sr. was arrested on Saturday night for driving while intoxicated a third time or more. He was booked in the Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas. Later, on Sunday afternoon, he was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
It is not the first time Mahomes Sr. has been arrested for DWI. According to records, he has been cited twice for DWI, in 2008 and 2018. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in Texas and received prison time for 40 days, which he ended up serving on weekends, per reports.
And now, according to Texas state law, a third DWI might result in Mahomes Sr. facing 2-10 years of prison time and a $10,000 fine. But, since a sentencing law is complex, his prison time might be shorter than that even if he gets convicted on a third DWI.
This arrest comes just a few days before the highly-anticipated Super Bowl game between the Chiefs and the 49ers in Vegas. Patrick Mahomes is looking to win his third championship ring, but his father’s arrest could become a slight distraction, especially since he might be questioned about it during the pre-game press conference.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. confessed to having a few beers before DWI
According to several reports, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was pulled over by the cops in Texas just before 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night. Mahomes Sr. agreed to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and displayed four clues of intoxication, according to documents.
Based on the totality of the circumstances. I believed Patrick was impaired to a perceptible degree while operating a motor vehicle in a public place.the arresting officer wrote, citing probable cause
Furthermore, according to The NY Post, he reportedly told the police during the stop that he “had a few beers while watching a game at a local bar” when asked why he was driving while intoxicated.
Nonetheless, he has been released from prison after posting a $10,000 bond. He is still facing up to 10 years in prison if he gets convicted of his third DWI.
Mahomes Sr. used to be a pitcher in Major League Baseball for more than a decade. He spent the majority of his career with the Minnesota Twins before bouncing around with other teams during the final stages of his career.
